Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can you laser cut?
We cut carbon steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 430), aluminum (6061, 5052, 3003), copper, brass, and galvanized steel. Our fiber laser handles a wide range of thicknesses across all of these materials. If you have a material not listed here, contact us to confirm compatibility.
What tolerance can you hold on laser cut parts?
Our fiber laser holds tolerances to 0.005 inches. This level of precision eliminates most secondary operations and ensures parts fit correctly the first time. Tolerance can vary slightly by material type and thickness; contact us if your project has specific tolerance requirements.
What file formats do you accept?
We accept DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, and PDF drawings. If you have a sketch, a sample part, or an idea but no CAD file, our in-house design team can create the files for you. Contact us at (606) 387-3121 or through our website to get started.
Do you have a minimum order quantity?
We work with customers on prototype quantities, single parts, and high-volume production runs. There is no rigid minimum for most materials. Our per-part cost does improve at higher volumes, but we do not turn away small orders. Submit your project and we will work with you on pricing.
Can you also bend, weld, or finish the parts after cutting?
Yes. All secondary operations are available in-house, including bending and forming, robotic and manual welding, powder coating, deburring, tumbling, countersinking, and hardware insertion. Combining operations at Metal Workz eliminates vendor coordination and reduces your total lead time and shipping cost.
How do I get a laser cutting quote?
Submit your files through our contact page at metalworkz.com/contact/ or call us at (606) 387-3121. Include your material type, thickness, quantity, and any finishing requirements for the fastest turnaround. We typically respond within 1-2 business days.
Do you offer sheet metal laser cutting?
Yes. Sheet metal laser cutting is one of our core services. We cut sheet stock in steel, stainless, aluminum, copper, and brass across a range of gauges and thicknesses. If you have a specific sheet size or gauge requirement, include that information when requesting your quote.
Where are you located, and do you ship nationwide?
We are located at 368 KY-90 East, Albany, KY 42602. We ship finished parts anywhere in the United States via freight or parcel carrier depending on part size and quantity. Many of our customers are outside Kentucky and work with us entirely online, sending files and receiving finished parts by delivery.
