Powder Coating Services
A bold, long-lasting finish that protects your metal parts from corrosion, oxidation, and damage. Applied in-house at our Albany, KY facility on parts we fabricate or parts you send us.
Powder Coating That Protects as Good as It Looks
Powder coating is one of the most durable metal finishing processes available. Unlike liquid paint, powder coating is applied electrostatically as a dry powder, then cured under heat to form a hard, continuous protective layer. The result is a finish that resists chipping, scratching, fading, and corrosion far better than conventional paint.
At Metal Workz LLC, our powder coating service is available both as a standalone service for parts you send us, and as part of a complete fabrication package. Whether you need a single color on a simple bracket or a custom finish on a complex welded assembly, our team handles the prep, application, and curing in-house at our Albany, Kentucky facility.
Benefits of Powder Coating vs. Conventional Paint
Superior Durability
Powder coating forms a thicker, harder film than liquid paint. It resists chips, scratches, and impact far better in industrial and outdoor applications.
Corrosion Resistance
The cured powder layer seals metal surfaces completely, protecting steel, aluminum, and other metals from rust, oxidation, and moisture damage.
UV and Fade Resistance
Powder coatings hold their color far longer than liquid paint when exposed to sunlight and weather. Ideal for outdoor equipment and architectural components.
Consistent Finish Quality
Electrostatic application produces an even, drip-free coat across complex geometries and edges. No runs, sags, or thin spots that plague brush or spray painting.
Wide Color and Finish Range
Available in thousands of colors and multiple finishes including gloss, semi-gloss, matte, satin, and textured. Custom color matching available on request.
Environmentally Friendly
Powder coating produces no VOCs and overspray is recoverable and reusable. A cleaner process than solvent-based liquid paint with less waste and no hazardous solvents.
How We Powder Coat Your Parts
A quality powder coat finish starts well before the powder is ever applied. Surface preparation is the most critical step, and it is one we take seriously.
Surface Prep
Parts are cleaned, degreased, and prepped to remove oils, mill scale, rust, and contaminants. Proper prep is what determines how well the finish bonds and how long it lasts.
Masking
Threads, mating surfaces, and any areas that must remain uncoated are masked off before application to preserve fit and function.
Electrostatic Application
Dry powder is applied electrostatically using a spray gun. The charge causes the powder to wrap around and adhere uniformly to all surfaces, including edges and inside corners.
Oven Curing
Parts are cured in our oven at the correct temperature and duration for the powder type. Heat flow-levels the powder and cross-links it into a hard, continuous film.
Inspection and Ship
Every batch is inspected for finish quality, coverage, and color consistency before packing and shipping directly to you.
Powder Coating Colors and Finish Types
Powder coatings are available in a vast range of colors and surface textures. We work with standard RAL and custom colors, and can match to existing color specifications on request. The finish type you choose affects both the appearance and the durability characteristics of the coating.
Standard and custom colors available. Contact us to discuss your color requirement or provide a RAL, Pantone, or paint code to match.
Powder Coating vs. Liquid Paint
| Performance Factor | Powder Coating | Liquid Paint |
|---|---|---|
| Chip and impact resistance | Excellent; thicker, harder film | Fair; can chip on impact |
| Corrosion protection | Excellent; fully sealed surface | Moderate; depends on primer |
| UV and fade resistance | Very good; color holds outdoors | Fair; fades with UV exposure |
| Edge coverage | Excellent; wraps around edges | Poor; paint thins at edges |
| Finish consistency | Very consistent; no drips or sags | Variable; prone to runs |
| Environmental impact | No VOCs; overspray recyclable | VOCs present; hazardous waste |
| Cure time | Fast; 15-25 min in oven | Longer; air dry or force dry |
